Noni Hazlehurst is a woman in demand — and she isn’t complaining.

The 65-year-old celebrated actor is bouncing from project to project covering all bases of film, television and theatre with a bonus spot on Broadway planned for later in the year.

“I’ve never been busier,” Hazlehurst told Confidential.

“Far from being the recluse that I’ve been described as I have actually never been busier. It is quite bizarre and I am very grateful. The roles are coming thick and fast so I am delighted.”

The industry veteran is in her second week of shooting local film, June Again, in and around Sydney.

The A Place To Call Home actor plays the lead character in the film that tells the story of a woman who hasn’t been well but after a medical miracle is charged with bringing her estranged children together. Her adult kids are played by Claudia Karvan and Stephen Curry.

“Weirdly I have never worked with either of those two before,” she said.

“There is a very good dynamic developing between them.”

The film role comes after Hazlehurst appeared in acclaimed Bruce Beresford flick Ladies in Black in 2018.

Also coming up this year, Hazlehurst will star alongside Frances O’Connor in 10-part Foxtel series, The End.

“The script just leapt off the page,” she said. “And without good scripts, we don’t have an industry. There’s so many wonderful people in it and for the first time in 17 years I filmed near my home town and was able to go home each night after shooting on the Gold Coast.”

Hazlehurst is also taking her one woman play Mother to New York, London and Edinburgh after stops in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Darwin over the coming months.

“I have never worked in New York,” she said. “It is very exciting. We’ve got a producer on board and it is looking good, I just have to get the appropriate certifications to be able to go there but that is in train now.”
