Having suffered three miscarriages before engaging help of fertility doctors for her first pregnancy, the model mum was told she was unlikely to have another child.
Parents to 15-month-old son Jett, Phillips and partner Dane Rumble have described her second pregnancy as a miracle.
“With Jett it took two years, three miscarriages, a lot of testing and this time around I had no idea I was even pregnant until about 15 weeks,” Phillips told Confidential as she hosted Myer Fashions on the Field at Flemington Racecourse for Melbourne Cup.
“This time round it was completely unplanned and completely lucky.
“From my first experience, the battles and everything we went through, this was a massive surprise, it is such a crazy rollercoaster.”
Phillips, 35, was treated for cervical cancer 12 years ago and doctors warned her then she may struggle to conceive.
With Jett though, it was a chromosomal issue that caused the previous miscarriages.
Now five months pregnant, Phillips revealed her baby news on social media at the weekend and Confidential can confirm the couple are expecting another baby boy.
She and Rumble never planned to have another child so soon and were open to explore IVF or even adoption.
“It is not until you delve into that whole world of pregnancy and fertility you realise actually how hard it is and how incredible the female body is,” she explained.
“This time around, I have no idea how this has happened. I would say that both my children, this one and Jett, are complete miracles in their own rights.”
She added: “We had been told by doctors and obstetricians that if we were to try again, it would be very high risk of more miscarriages and it may not happen for us.”
