Modern makeover for Girlfriend’s famous modelling competition

The long-running Girlfriend Modelling Competition is shaking things up. The audition process is now online and no longer just about beauty.

It’s the long-running competition which kicked off the careers of Ruby Rose, Samantha Harris, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Natalie Roser and now it’s back with a new name and new focus.

Auditions are no longer based purely on looks and gone are the days of hopefuls travelling hours to enter.

The newly branded Girlfriend Role Model Competition has had a modern makeover and will allow wannabe models to apply online, with the entry process now fully digitised.

The new application process is a welcome change said Roser, who 16 years ago travelled more than three hours from Newcastle to Parramatta to enter the competition.

“I was living in Newcastle, so it was three hours in the car for me and my mum,” said Roser, who has come full circle as one of this year’s judges.

“It was in 2004 and I was 13. My mum entered me into the competition without my knowledge. So it is amazing that it is online this year. It will open up the opportunity to so many more people who might not be able to make it.”

Roser, who has since gone on to work for mega brands including Guess, said the fact organisers are focusing less on looks and more on personality is another welcome change.

“The Girlfriend modelling competition has obviously been such an amazing experience that opened me up to a career that I never knew was an option,” Roser said.

“I am so excited to be more involved this year because it has been rebranded and is now called the Role Model search which is great.

“It’s not all about looks and highlights how important it is that these girls share their stories and their personalities.
“We want to get to know the girls and we want to be inspired by them.”

The Girlfriend Role Model competition launches tomorrow.
