With Pink fever gripping Brisbane, a 60-year-old Bribie Island woman is staking her claim to be the pop superstar’s biggest superfan.
From tattooing the American singer’s name on her body to altering international travel plans just to catch a glimpse of her hero live, midwife Maria Thompson represents the epitome of fan commitment.
Ms Thompson says the pop queen is “in my life every single day”.
“It’s just an everyday obsession,” she said.
“I go to the gym, I listen to her music, I’m in the car, I listen to music. I’m at home, I listen to music,” she said, adding that the singer’s music serves as a constant companion and source of motivation.
Having attended multiple tours since 2008, including the Beautiful Trauma, The Truth About Love and Fun House tours, Thompson’s dedication is unwavering.
“I even went and saw her in Southern California, just over 12 months ago at the Ohana fest – I rerouted my travel plans just to be able to get there,” she said.
Her tattoo, done at Hart and Huntington in Noosa — a parlour franchise founded by Pink’s husband, Carey Hart — serves as a permanent testament to her fandom.
The tattoo, a musical note transforming into a heart with the word ‘P!nk,’ is located meaningfully among tattoos dedicated to her family.
“I have four small tattoos, and they’re all meaningful, little footprints for my grandbaby that I lost, one for my mum, and this one for Pink is one of the most meaningful things to me because it’s what keeps me going,” she said.
This year, Thompson is attending two Pink concerts in Brisbane, attending Saturday’s show and planning another visit in March when the tour circles back, with hopes high for a personal meeting with the star.
“Meeting Pink would be a dream come true,” she said, revealing how such an encounter would top her bucket list, a list she’s been diligently ticking off since losing her husband years ago.
At 60, Thompson embodies the timeless appeal of Pink’s music, believing the artist will be a legendary figure for generations to come.
“She’ll be legendary forever,” she said.
“What I love is her attitude, her positivity and her ‘just don’t give a damn about what other people think’ personality. That positivity has driven me to get to where I am got me through the darkest times.”
