Lady Gaga and Glenn Close both take out Best Actress award at Critics Choice

Hedging a bet each way two favourites were both crowned best actress at the annual Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles. And it proved to be much the same in the fashion stakes as actors put on a sophisticated showing on the red carpet.

Hedging a bet each way, Glenn Close and Lady Gaga were both crowned best actress at the annual Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

With Close, for The Wife, having bested the A Star Is Born actor and singer for the same award at the Golden Globes last week, she said on stage: “I am so thrilled a tie. The world pits us against each other in this profession. And I know, from the other women in this category, we celebrate each other.”

After being announced as the second winner, Gaga, who also won best original song for Shallow, broke down, before tripping on her way up to the stage and admitting she spilt water everywhere.

“I am in shock this evening to be honoured as both a musician and an actress, I cannot tell you what it means to me. It was my greatest dream to be an actor and I gave it up but here I am now with Glenn Close.”

But it was Roma’s night, winning best picture, best foreign film and another best director gong for Mexico’s Alfonso Cuaron.
