Survivor host Jonathan Lapaglia has revealed his disappointment at not being able to host the finale due to the global health crisis.
The US-based TV presenter and former medical doctor told Confidential that while the situation is unfortunate, it was the best decision after he was forced to cancel his trip back to Australia due to the government’s recent travel restrictions.

“It was [disappointing], logically it was the right decision,” he said.
”We talked about it with the network and myself and just the way everything was transpiring with California going into lockdown, Trump announcing no travel to Europe and then Australia imposing a 14-day quarantine. Logically, it didn’t make any sense as with the 14-day quarantine I couldn’t even do the show on the ground.
“From an emotional point of view it was really tough, they’re my people, they’re my team. I’ve been coaching them all season and not to be there for the grand finale was kind of disappointing but these are crazy times.”
Lapaglia has since been replaced by longtime Bachelor host Osher Gunsberg but will make a satellite appearance when one of three remaining contestants is crowned the winner. The finalists include David Genat, Moana Hope and Sharn Coombes.
“I don’t have any favourites, all I want is the players to make moves and play the game hard. I think the three players we have left have all done that in different ways. They’re all pretty worthy winners.”
The Australian Survivor: All Stars finale airs Monday at 7:30pm on Channel 10.
