Jessika Power: Cosmetic procedure injects bottom fat into breasts

Gold Coast reality star Jessika Power was one of the first women in Queensland to try it, now this two-in-one cosmetic procedure is gaining in popularity.

Cosmetic surgery disasters: Here’s why you shouldn’t get work done overseas

QUEENSLAND women are having their own fat injected into their breasts in a growing trend that’s taking the cosmetic surgery industry by storm.

The alternative to breast implants gives women a two-for-one, giving them a larger bust while removing fat from stubborn areas.

Queensland men are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery in an image-obsessed society

Reality television star Jessika Power was one of the first Queensland women to have the fat transfer procedure done.

The 27-year-old told The Sunday Mail she was looking to slim down her thighs, and said the breast enlargement came as a bonus.

“At the start it was about removing a little worry area on both sides of my thighs that no matter how much I went to the gym, wouldn’t seem to budge” Power said.

“Dr Rastogi (a Sydney-based plastic surgeon) said, ‘Well, what do you think of your breasts?’

“He told me that they were going to throw the fat out and it needed to be removed anyway, so why didn’t I just get it injected into my boobs.”

Power said she hadn’t previously thought of getting a breast enlargement, but she was glad to have used her own fat to give her a fuller look.

“I’m super, super happy with the results, I love them,” she said.

“I think it’s the better alternative to putting something foreign in your body … It’s nice to shock people when I say, ‘well, they’re real,’ because in a sense they are still real.”

But like many cosmetic procedures and operations, there are risks.

Some doctors warn the fat won’t successfully take hold of the breast tissue, or will die quickly after insertion.

The death of cell fat, known as necrosis, leaves no long lasting damage, however means the surgery was unsuccessful.

Power’s $13,000 procedure resulted in 90 per cent of the fat taken from her thighs successfully graphed into her breasts.

Cosmetic surgeon Daniel Lanzer, who operates out of Brisbane, Cairns and the Gold Coast, said the average retention rate for breast fat graphs was around 70 per cent.

He said the main appeal was that it allowed patients fuller breasts without inserting foreign objects into their body.

“Women are having breast implants removed and then asking to be injected with their own fat instead,” he said.

“We’ve developed new methods of processing fat to create a better, safer way of doing liposculpture. It’s becoming more of a trend because people are a bit nervous about implants.”

.

Dr Lanzer said he would perform about 10 breast graphing procedures per month — about the same number of traditional breast augmentation surgeries.

Craig Layt from the Gold Coast’s Layt Clinic said the new year often brought new clients.

“After people lose weight, they want help with tummy aprons and excess skin on their body,” Dr Layt said.

“I’m counting on procedures in this area getting higher in the next year or so.”

Dr Layt said social media would continue to influence plastic surgery trends in 2020, but warned it may not always be for the best.

“Insta trends like devil lips are really popular, but just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean it’s right for you,” he said.

“Social media trends often turn out to be a flash in the pan, so I ask patients, ‘is it going to make you more beautiful?’ … I want to make people look natural, not weird.”
