Two former tradies from Kiama have become unexpected social media stars, landing a major partnership with a luxury fashion house and earning big bucks from their posts and appearances.

Jack Steele and Matt Ford, aka Inspired Unemployed, have built a big Instagram following with their comedic skits.

“We didn’t expect anything like this to happen and definitely not this quick,” Steele said.

Steele, 25, and Ford, 24, managed by Clare Winterbourne at Born Bred Talent, recently appeared on the cover of GQ magazine’s online style issue and have a partnership with Italian luxury brand Fendi.

They were guests at the exclusive Vogue 60th anniversary event in December and have some big projects going forward.

One of those projects has been working with Kayo Sports alongside Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee.

This attention has come off the back of their wit, and helped them grow their Instagram following organically to more than 120,000 in just 10 months.

Steele gave up his job working as a plasterer before Christmas, while Ford was working as a carpenter.

“My dad was my boss and he told me to get the f*** out of the job while I can,” Steele said.

“We are having so much fun, too much probably. It is a complete 180 from what we were doing before. I used to start at 7am and clock off at 3pm, now we work until we go to bed but we love it.”

The boys were a year apart at Kiama High School and both dropped out at the start of year 11.

On social media, they create spoof video content of different characters, including surfie dudes, country blokes, tradies and metrosexuals.

“I don’t think we’d ever do stand up but who knows,” Ford said. “It is more Hamish (Blake) and Andy (Lee) style comedy skits. It seems it is resonating with some people.”
