‘I would love to be Bachelorette’: Abbie Chatfield hopes to make a return to TV screens

It has been one month since Abbie Chatfield had her heart broken by Matt Agnew during The Bachelor finale, but she has not given up on finding love and would jump at the chance to be The Bachelorette.

Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield launches blistering tirade after being ‘slut-shamed’

It has been one month since Abbie Chatfield had her heart broken by Matt Agnew during The Bachelor finale, but she has not given up on finding love.

The runner-up on the popular “reality’’ show has now set her sights on becoming the next Bachelorette after fans called for her to take on the role. “I would love to be Bachelorette,” she told Sydney Confidential at Tribe Skincare’s second birthday event on the weekend.

“But I think it’s a really hard gig because you’re basically by yourself … I’d definitely consider (it though), I think it would be lots of fun.”

During the dramatic Bachelor finale last month, Chatfield, 23, was reduced to tears when Agnew picked Chelsie McLeod over her.

But she appeared to have moved on when she was recently spotted kissing former Bachelorette contestant Todd King.

She insists, however, she is still very much single.

“No, we’re not dating. We had like, one weekend in Brisbane and it’s been drawn out,” she said.

“He’s great but he lives in Perth and just got into the police academy so he’s not moving [and] I’m not moving to Perth.”

Chatfield recently quit her job as a property analyst in Brisbane and plans to move to Sydney, where The Bachelorette is filmed.

She said she wants a man who is down to earth with a good sense of humour.

“I don’t have a type at all. Every guy that I’ve dated is completely different in age, appearance, background and job,” she said. “I want someone who’s smart and empathetic and can make me laugh.”

Chatfield said she’s still adjusting to life in the spotlight after her stint on the Channel 10 reality show.

“It’s so crazy because it happened virtually overnight,” she said of her new-found fame.

“It’s really good but it also comes with pressure. I’m very careful with what I post now.”

She has been vocal on social media about body image and owning her sexuality after being criticised by viewers of the show.

Chatfield’s racy scenes with Agnew raised a few eyebrows, but she said she has no regrets.

“I didn’t realise the backlash would be so strong, I live in this bubble with feminist friends and no one really has those opinions,” she said.

“People are uncomfortable with sexuality in general in Australia, we’re quite backwards but I think even more so for women.

“That’s just who I am, by the end of it I forgot the cameras were even there. That’s why I said ‘I’m so horny, I want to have sex with you’ [to Matt] because it was like I forgot. At that point, you’re dating someone for three months and you haven’t slept with them… I didn’t put it on at all, that’s just me.”
