‘I am now single’: Leisel Jones announces shock split from partner live on radio

Brisbane radio star and former Olympic swimmer Leisel Jones has confirmed her shock split from her husband of five years, admitting it leaves her with a fear for her future.

Liesel Jones has split from Damon Martin after a five-year marriage.

Former Olympic swimmer and Brisbane Triple M star Leisel Jones has announced her shock split from her husband.

On Tuesday night, the Rush Hour Host revealed that she and her husband Damon ‘Damo’ Martin were no longer an item.

“We have separated. It’s incredibly sad news,” she told listeners.

The couple have been married since 2018 and have been together since 2016.

Ms Jones, who also appeared on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here, lamented her loss with fellow co-hosts Dobbo and Leima.

“I have the deepest respect for Damo. It’s a very sad situation for both of us and a very hard decision to come to,” she said.

She went on to say “I’m conscious I am 38, I am now single, and I don’t have any children and I might have missed that window, so that’s a little frightening.”

The pair took this snap right after their engagement in 2017.

In the radio segment, Ms Jones said “I think it takes a lot of bravery and two grown-ups to decide what’s not right for them at a certain time and to realise that you are better off going separate ways.

“So it is a very sad announcement.”

She explained she felt she was now “out in the wilderness on my own” and admitted it was “a really big adjustment to do things on your own”.

“I can’t cook my chops as well as Damo used to do, and I miss that,” she added.

“Damo is a such a wonderful guy, a great guy. We are both extremely heartbroken.”

Ms Jones got married five years ago in a low-key affair in NSW after Mr Martin popped the question when they had been overseas in the US. They had been together for less than a year at the time.

The pair met through mutual friends and she said it was Mr Martin’s humour that first caught her eye.

“WE’RE ENGAGED,” she penned at the time.

“Damo popped the question while we were in The States. I can’t wait to annoy the hell out of you for the rest of our eternal lives. Love you @sunchayser.”
