How NSW kids interpret COVID-19 restrictions

Adults still struggling with what COVID-19 means to our everyday lives do not have to look very far for guidance.

It seems our kids have taken on the new normal of coronavirus with gusto, picking up very quickly the rules of social distancing, why we have to stay home and how to wash our hands to prevent the spread of the virus.

From Sydney to Canberra, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley, The Daily Telegraph surveyed young Aussies about what they think of the new world we are living in as the Easter school holiday begins.

“Man flu,” was three-year-old Bella Williams from Canberra’s idea of what coronavirus is.

Meanwhile Lourdes Yankuloff of Sydney said “ScoMo” is making the decisions about what people can and cannot do.

“Bats sneezed on someone’s hand and then they wiped it all over their face,” seven-year-old Taj, from Canberra, explained.

While schools and childcare centres are still open for those who require them, parents are waiting for more information about how these institutions will approach the rest of the year.

In total there are 2773 cases of COVID-19 across NSW, with 31 people in intensive care and 21 of those on ventilators.

The number of community transmission cases continues to rise and is up to 416 cases. The NSW death toll is now at 21 people.

Nationally, there are some 6,089 cases of coronavirus with 51 deaths.
