There’s nothing quite like a footy player and his high school sweetheart tying the knot to brighten up a cloudy January day and today it was GWS co-captain Callan Ward who got suited and booted.
An item for eight years and engaged just over one year ago, Ward and his lady love Ruby Keddie made it official with a super-lavish ceremony at Tresco, a $50 million harbourside estate in Elizabeth Bay currently owned by the Waterhouses.
Keddie, an aspiring designer and Instagram influencer, wore a dress thought to be by Melbourne design house Cappellazzo Couture — a designer she also wore to last year’s Brownlows.
Ward, who has only been granted a few days holiday before returning to pre-season training with the Giants, bucked tradition and arrived by boat in a white coat and black trousers.
About 180 guests — including Ward’s Giants roster and a few ex-teammates from his days at the Western Bulldogs — turned out to watch the couple exchange vows along with Giants chairman Tony Shepherd.
Following the ceremony it was off to The Royal Botanic Garden for the reception where Ward’s Giants’ vice-captain Stephen Coniglio fulfilled MC duties.
The wedding cames just over a year since Ward popped the question — on bended knee and in full tux — prior to a screening of Murder On The Orient Express.
