The reign of skimpy bikinis may be over as modest swimwear makes a stylish comeback.
Boyleg swimwear, a nostalgic nod to the ’90s, is returning to beaches and pools and is surprisingly popular among younger women.
Australian swimwear label Bond-eye launched its latest collection on Thursday, showcasing the vintage look.
Fashion stylist Livia Sharp noted the growing demand for more coverage in swimwear, especially among Gen Z shoppers.
“It’s definitely a ’90s throwback,” Sharp told The Daily Telegraph.
“I don’t think super skimpy styles will disappear entirely, but there’s a large group of women who just don’t want their entire arse on display.”
Sharp, 43, said she was excited to see more options that suited a wider range of body types and personal preferences.
“I think a lot of women, especially my older clients and mums, will be relieved,” she said.
“It’s hard finding something stylish that also feels comfortable and appropriate.”
What makes the trend more promising, according to Sharp, is its popularity with younger customers.
“Bond-eye targeting a younger audience with these designs is a good sign,” she said.
“If trend-focused labels are embracing more modest cuts, it means there’s a real shift happening.
“If this 90s-style resurgence catches on, it could very well mark the start of a new trend in swimwear. I’m all for it.”
