Triple M is the latest station to shake up its breakfast slot, with Emma Freedman set to depart the Grill Team, and a Block star and comedian brought in to a new, renamed show.
Freedman, who is expecting her first child with husband Charlie Rundle in late May, will no longer co-host the breakfast slot.
Lawrence “Moonman” Mooney will host a new comedy breakfast show on Triple M Sydney to start in January, titled Moonman In The Morning.
He will be joined by Grill Team veteran Gus Worland — who returns for his 10th year of Triple M Sydney breakfast — plus radio announcer and entertaining contestant of Channel 9’s 2018 series of The Block Jess Eva, and writer and comedian Chris Page.

Triple M’s head of content Mike Fitzpatrick told Confidential Freedman was still under contract with Triple M despite her departure from the breakfast line-up.
“With the change in direction for the show, we’re talking to Emma about other opportunities within the network that better suit her,” he said.
Of the new direction of the show, he added: “We can’t just re-do the Grill Team. It’s time to move on. This will be a real comedy and music show that gives Sydney a unique look at what’s happening in the city and plays the biggest rock hits.”
Eva, who has been doing breakfast radio on the Sunshine Coast for six years on 91.9 Sea FM, appeared on the most recent season of The Block with partner Norm Hogan.
“She’s a star of the future,” Fitzpatrick said.
Freedman, who is also a presenter on Fox Sports, told her listeners in late November that the pregnancy “hasn’t been easy” and was an “emotional rollercoaster”.
“There’s been mornings filled with pulling over the side on Oxford Street, opening my door and vomiting on the road,” she told listeners.
Mooney, whose Malcolm Turnbull character has seen him sell out comedy festivals, is also the host of ABC’s Dirty Laundry Live. He has been a part of the Triple M family for years, appearing on and co-hosting various shows around the network, most recently as part of the breakfast team in Brisbane.
“I’m actually pretty honoured to be doing breakfast in the biggest market in the country,” he said.
“I’m following in the footsteps of some big names at Triple M and that absolutely thrills me.”
