Cassandra Thorburn has recalled lying on the floor for hours on end in the foetal position as her heartbreaking divorce played out.
Speaking on her new podcast, Divorce Story: Surviving Separation, the ex wife of TV host Karl Stefanovic described her own divorce as “pretty confronting”.
The pair have three children from their 21 year relationship.
“You get yourself out the door with the kids to go to school … I had children, they had to go to school,” Thorburn explained.
“You get them there, I would literally crawl to the back door and lie on the floor until it was time to pick them up again.”

Karl Stefanovic’s ex wife: ‘He’s dead to me’
Thorburn and Today host Stefanovic announced their separation in 2016. He has since remarried and is expecting a child with new partner, shoe designer Jasmine.
Of the days immediately following the divorce, former journalist Thorburn remembered lying in the foetal position on the floor.
“There are so many fears that come through your mind,” she explained. “How am I going to become a mum and a dad? You are not. How am I going to run the household on my own without the support of somebody else? Who am I going to have those conversations with. And then not just that person, it is grieving a marriage. How did I get myself back up again? Like I said, I had three children, I had to get back up.”
She continued: “And when you realise that actually it is an opportunity for you to start thinking about yourself because you are no longer part of a couple, you no longer have to consider another adult in every decision you make, you no longer have to think ‘okay this is what one of the children want to do, should I check with someone.
“You actually get to make those decisions on your own. I am not talking life changing decisions for them, but everyday decisions.”
