Former glamour ironwoman Candice Warner is back competing on the beach, donning the racing togs for the first time in more than a decade since retiring from professional lifesaving.
Warner, wife of Aussie cricket star Dave Warner, bagged a swag of medals in the masters division of the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast.
A former NSW state ironwoman champ, Warner, now 37 and a mum-of-three, decided to get back into the sport she loves.
Representing her club North Bondi in the Aussies, she competed in an incredible 11 events in two days and won six medals, including silver in the board relay, board rescue, swim teams and double ski.
“It’s great to come back to something you love, represent the club and have some fun with your mates,” she said.
“I didn’t realise how taxing it would be with no real racing under my belt. When I was competing in the opens, you compete over five days but the masters is over two so it’s tough.”
She said she had relayed her results to her husband, who is playing in the Indian Premier League on the subcontinent.
“He’s really thrilled for me,” she said.
“I’ll definitely give it another crack next year.”
