Bachelor’s Matty J and Laura urge Aussies to overcome rescue dog stigma
The Bachelor’s Matty J and Laura are calling on Australians to let go of the stigma of ‘difficult’ rescue dogs and adopt their own furry companion after finding their own rescue ‘angel’.

Bachelor couple Matthew Johnson and Laura Byrne have urged Australians to adopt rescue pets if they’re considering an addition to their family.
The loved-up Bondi duo were parents to three legged pooch Buster before 11-month-old daughter Marlie-Mae was born.
“Buster was a rescue,” Byrne explained. “He had three legs when we got him. I think there is still a bit of a stigma around rescue dogs. I think people often think that rescue animals are damaged or that they’ve been through a lot of trauma and they are going to be difficult house pets but it is really not the case.”
Buster, five, lost his leg at six months after being hit by a car living on a farm before being surrendered to Sydney’s Maggie’s Rescue.

The couple spoke to The Saturday Telegraph ahead of the launch of Channel 10s The Dog House, a documentary-style series about a dog rescue centre.
“What is great about rescue dogs is you have the ability to foster them before you actually commit,” Johnson said. “It is the perfect way to road test a pet to make sure it is the right fit for your family. Before I met Buster I was guilty of thinking that a rescue dog had been abused and abandoned and aggressive, I had that stigma so I am so glad that I met Buster and it has corrected the situation on rescue dogs and what they are actually like.”
Byrne added: “Buster is an angel, he is the best dog ever. Sometimes going for a walk can be a bit more difficult than what other people might find with their dogs but he is so well natured and calm, he is just a part of the family.”
With the arrival of Marlie-Mae, the couple said Buster was a little jealous at first but is “the most patient dog ever”.
