A who’s who of entertainment made their way up the red carpet at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre for a first look at the stage musical starring Casey Donovan, Alinta Chidzey and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
“What an opening night,” Donovan, who plays Matron “Mama” Morton, told Confidential.
“I am buzzing. I have so much fun playing Mama and being able to share the stage with such an amazingly talented hardworking cast and crew, it really does make me smile from ear to ear.”
Bassingthwaighte is Roxie Hart while Tom Burlinson appears as Billy Flynn and Chidzey plays Velma Kelly.

“It is just so well put together … there’s not many shows that have been done to this degree of detail,” Chidzey said before the curtain rose for the opening performance.
“It is definitely a dream show for me and I watched it when I was 16 and always wanted to play this role, so the fact that it’s actually happening is quite surreal and I have pinch-me moments listening to certain songs.”
Familiar faces in the audience included Edwina Bartholomew, Larry Emdur, Angela Bishop, Kyly Clarke, Danielle Cormack, Rodger Corser, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Dami Im, Samantha Jade and Kerri-Anne Kennerley.
