Protective, awkward and slightly nervous.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry beamed as they showed off their baby Archie for the first time. But their body language was much more telling.

Cradling the bub — whose full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor — Harry’s stance suggested he was being “protective” as the royal couple showed him off for the first time in St George's Hall at Windsor Castle, an Australian body language expert revealed.

And Meghan’s constant hair touching was indicative of slight “awkwardness”.

“He’s protective of the baby and so is she. She’s sort of holding the both of them as the baby as if they’re one,” body language expert Dr Louise Mahler told News Corp Australia today.

In footage of the occasion, Dr Mahler said: “Her awkwardness shows by the constant hair touching and the way she walks, she stumbles slightly and loses her balance”.

“Her eyes were blinking a lot too,” she added.

“How brave is she to come out two days after she’s had a baby with such professionalism. This is two people who adore the baby.”

In a tender moment, Meghan — who wore a white tuxedo dress by British fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner — was pictured with her arm around Harry as the couple left the closed media call.

“It’s a similar stance and touch to their engagement photo. The difference is, in the engagement one he is looking at her. In this one, he is looking at the baby,” Mahler said.

“She’s not just standing with her arm around him, she’s moving behind him constantly.

“She never normally does that.”

Meantime, a body language expert told The Sun “protective” Meghan looked like she had “slight inhibitions” about showing off her newborn.

“When Meghan used the phrase ‘My two best guys’ she summed up the body language messages in these poses,” body language expert Judi James told Britain’s The Sun.

“Harry cradled the baby throughout, using the face softening look of love as he glanced down at its face and even picked a bit of lint off its cap, while Meghan stood to his side offering maternal-looking support and encouragement to them both.

“Harry looked like a very comfortable, adept cradler, unlike other royal males. although he was comfort-rubbing his own hand as well as his baby.

“Meghan’s self comfort touches suggested some slight inhibitions but — as she did during their engagement — she was the one leading the interview while placing a protective arm around her two boys.”

During the media call at Windsor Castle, Meghan said she had the “two best guys in the world”.

“It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing, they are the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” the Duchess of Sussex said.

“He has the sweetest temperament, he’s calm.”

Harry chimed in: “I don’t know who he gets that from.”

“He’s just been the dream so it’s been a special couple of days,” Meghan added.
