Labels offering more than just your basic beach bikini are fast becoming the go to brands for beach goers wanting more out of their swimwear.
Beacheluxe.com.au founder, Claudia Elizabeth, owns a one-stop-online-shop for all things summer and said 90s style swimwear and accessories was definitely having a resurgence.

“It’s gone so much further than just picking a swimsuit for summer,” Elizabeth told The Daily Telegraph.

“Our customers are definitely loving the 90s trend which is big at the moment, they are loving the high-cut and scoop-neck style.

“And it is also about that beach to bar feel. Back in the day it was just about the swimsuit but now people make a fashion statement. Your high cut one-piece needs to be able to be worn from the beach to the bar paired with a skirt.”

The latest fashion movement, loved and used by celebrities and fashionistas across the globe is wearing accessories with your swimwear.

“This summer is all about wearing accessories at the beach,” Elizabeth said.

“Bucket hats are definitely going to be big and the other big accessory we are seeing is chain belts and that’s thanks to Instagram.”

“It’s inspired by those iconic 90s campaigns shots, whether it is a one-piece or bikini, the chains are great. You might not think so but anyone can pull off this look. It actually really brings in your silhouette and gives you that really feminine hourglass shape.”

Hugely popular Australian swimwear brand Monte & Lou agrees the 90s is having a moment again when it comes to beachwear and have designed their latest collection around the trend.

“We’ve brought back the five hole tank, one of the simple clean shapes that personified the 90s swim fashion and our customers are loving it,” co-founder Kay Howitt said.

“Its simplistic shape-wise with a slightly higher legline to elongate the legs but we have tamed the V front depth.”

When it comes to prints, purples, oranges and leopard print is what’s being seen on the global runways.

“Animal prints have had a resurgence in the last few years and the Monte and Lou Leopard Print this season is Trend driven based on what we saw at the SS’19 Runway shows,” Howitt said.

“Leopard print was super popular in the 90s featuring heavily in Pop culture, from Scary Spice to Dionne in Clueless. We’ve featured animal print across multiple styles with a 90s edge such as Bandeau’s, Crop Tops and Reversible Bikini’s.”
