Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has been laid to rest after a funeral service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, with royals gathering for his final send-off.
According to Britain’s coronavirus pandemic rules, only 30 guests were permitted at the church service.
The Queen and royal family members were seated six feet apart and wearing masks during a subdued service.
The proceedings went according to Prince Philip’s wishes, a statement from Buckingham Palace said, as the Duke of Edinburgh was involved in meticulously planning the ceremony.
The details contained many references to Philip’s long life of service to the military and the nation.
Members of the royal family, including Philip’s four children — Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, as well as grandchildren William and Harry, walked behind Philip’s coffin as it was driven to the chapel in the specially designed Land Rover Defender hearse.
The queen arrived at the chapel by car for the service, which was just under an hour.
Prince Philip’s body is then to be laid to rest in the royal vault in St. George’s Chapel. Here are the images from the day.
