Sarah Ferguson vows to support disgraced Prince Andrew financially

She once said that she and Prince Andrew are the “happiest divorced couple in the world”, and now the Duchess of York is putting her money where her mouth is.

Prince Andrew may come to be supported by his former wife Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, who is understood to have a net worth of about $A1.7 million.

The Duchess of York revealed she was “proud” to support King Charles’ brother, who since stepping back from his royal duties “doesn’t actually take taxpayers’ money”, Ms Ferguson said in an interview with Hello Magazine.

“I’m in a position where I can support him and the rest of the family through my work. And I’m really pleased and proud to do that,” she said.

Her comments come after the disgraced Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles and duties after having sexual assault allegations brought against him, was reportedly offered Frogmore Cottage after the King booted the Sussexes from the property.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle extensively renovated the cottage, which was a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth. It was previously used as staff quarters.

When asked if Prince Andrew would move into the cottage, Ms Ferguson told Hello Magazine: “This is really a matter for the Duke and His Majesty”.

The Duke of York has recently been asked to vacate his suite at Buckingham Palace and Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor, which has been his home for the past 20 years with Ms Ferguson.

It is understood the 30-room mansion has been offered to Prince William and his family.

The couple divorced in 1996 but have remained close. The Duchess once famously said they are “the happiest divorced couple in the world”.

The Duke and Duchess of York have two children – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
