Royal baby: Harry’s plan to juggle royal duties with parenthood

Despite the arrival of his newborn son, Prince Harry will plough on with his previously booked royal engagements, jetting off to The Hague for the Invictus Games.

New father Prince Harry will briefly return to work just days after the birth of his first child but how much parental leave he and wife Megan are slated to take is yet to be seen.

Despite the couple welcoming their son on Monday morning, Prince Harry will travel to The Hague in the Netherlands on Thursday for the Invictus Games.

He also attended royal engagements in the lead up to the birth including an Anzac Day ceremony at Westminster Abbey and the London Marathon on April 28, which was widely speculated to be Meghan’s due date.

Meghan was extremely busy throughout her pregnancy, going on tours to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Morocco.

The Duchess of Cambridge returned to work six weeks after Prince George’s birth in 2013, but took four months after Princess Charlotte was born in 2015 and six months after Prince Louis’ arrival in 2018.

Prince William took two weeks off his royal duties for the birth of Prince George, 5, and Princess Charlotte, 3, but was seen at public engagements just two days after the birth of Louis, 1.

The couple’s move into their new Windsor home could prompt a longer period out of the public eye.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told News Corp the length of the couple’s parental leave was anyone’s guess, but the couple were sure to take reprieve in the privacy of their new home.

“She’s been miraculously active before the birth,” he said.

“What is an absolute certainty is the move to Frogmore (Cottage) which will guarantee privacy.”

The move into their new home could prompt a longer period out of the public eye, according to Majesty Magazine’s Joe Little, who said moving house while having a baby was a big deal even for royals.

“There’s no reason why he (Prince Harry) shouldn’t have some time off,” Mr Little said.

“There’s a suggestion he will, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t.

“His program this year hasn’t been so busy, but lots of what he is currently doing is behind the scenes so there’s no reason he couldn’t do that.”
