Queen funeral: Princes Harry, Andrew denied military uniforms and salute

Not all members of the Royal Family were allowed to pay tribute to the Queen with a traditional symbolic military gesture.

Two members of the royal family have been denied the right to wear military uniforms to the Queen’s funeral, and have also been denied the ability to salute the late Monarch as a result.

After being stripped from his formal title, Prince Andrew wore his mourning suit as he joined the procession for his late mother‘s funeral today.

Joining his siblings, King Charles III, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, Andrew bowed his head in silence as the other members of the royal family paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth with a military salute.

Much like his uncle, Prince Harry also wore a black suit instead of military uniform, after giving up his royal title and moving to the US with his wife.

Although excluded from military formalities, both Harry and Andrew wore military medals on their chests, a bright contrast to their black mourning suits.

Aussie body language expert Louise Mahler told News Corp: “Given this situation it was noteworthy that Andrew and Harry were not only stripped of their uniforms, but stripped of their ability to salute the Queens. Personally, I felt the need to salute such an outstanding figure and for them to have held back must have been torture and something that may eat at Harry in particular for a long time to come.”

After 10 years in the military service, Prince Harry was stripped of his titles in 2020 after he and his wife stepped down from royal life.

In 2019, his uncle, Prince Andrew, was forced to step down from royal duties following alleged child sex scandals involving Geoffrey Epstein.

Many had speculated on what Prince Andrew would wear to today‘s state memorial, as he was previously seen in military wear while paying tribute to his mother lying in state.
