Meghan Markle labelled a narcissist along with Elon Musk, Donald Trump and Kanye West in scathing list

Meghan Markle has been added to a scathing list amid claims Americans are turning against her.

Meghan Markle has been labelled a “narcissist” in a damning list that compares her to several high-profile figures, including Donald Trump.

In a newly published Politico piece titled “2022 Is The Year We All Finally Got Tired of the Narcissists”, the Duchess of Sussex made the scathing list, along with Elon Musk, Kanye West and Sam Bankman-Fried.

Ms Markle was accused of self-aggrandising behaviour for reliving her love story with Prince Harry in their recent Netflix show and was said to have given the impression that “there is no one more in love, no one more socially conscious, no one more aggrieved”, Joanna Weiss wrote on Politico.

“‘My natural sympathy for the couple started turning to irritation, and it occurred to me that ego has its limits,” Ms Weiss said.

“And it struck me that the overreach that led to the Sussexes’ critically panned mega-series is the same impulse that turned Elon Musk into a terror on Twitter, that prompted Ye to up the ante of outrageous behaviour until he crossed the line into blatant antisemitism, that sent Bankman-Fried from the top of the world to a Bahamian jail.”

Ms Weiss’ comments were part of a scathing attack that accused Elon Musk of turning Twitter into a “terror”, slammed Kanye West for publicly embracing antisemitism and took aim at FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, who faces criminal charges in the United States for securities fraud, campaign finance violations and money laundering.

But while Ms Weiss said Prince Harry and Ms Markle may have had legitimate grievances with the royal family, even “sympathetic critics” have groused that “there’s little new here, beyond the vanity”.

The piece also admits that the Sussexes‘ brand of narcissism is more “benign” than the likes of Kanye West, Elon Musk, Donald Trump and Sam Bankman-Fried, but that when it gets to the level of those three in particular, it can become dangerous.

However, it didn‘t take long for Ms Markle’s supporters to leap to her defence after seeing the article. Many criticised the article as unfairly targeting Ms Markle because of her race and called the piece “irresponsible”.

Entrepreneur and engineer Christopher Bouzy also described the hate for Ms Markle as “palpable.”

“A woman of colour protecting her family and defending herself isn‘t narcissism; it’s survival,” he tweeted before tagging Weiss and Politico, saying both should apologise for the ”garbage take,” he tweeted.

Meghan & Harry, directed by Liz Garbus, is the first project to emerge from the multi-year deal the couple signed with Netflix back in 2020, shortly after they announced they were stepping down as working members of the royal family.

In September 2020, the couple announced a partnership with the streaming giant to work on a number of projects including documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows and children‘s programming in collaboration with their company Archewell Productions.

Netflix recently announced that the couple would present a documentary series that will celebrate “inspirational leaders” throughout history, inspired by Nelson Mandela.

The seven-part series called “Live to Lead” will feature interviews with global figures “who have made brave choices” including New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern and late US Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Other people featured include Bryan Stevenson, US social justice activist and law professor, Albie Sachs,a former South African judge, rugby player Siya Kolisi and the journalist Gloria Steinem.
