Jennifer Lawrence has revealed she has suffered two miscarriages.

The 32-year-old Oscar winning actress sat down with Vogue for the cover of the magazine’s October issue, where she made the rare private revelations while speaking about the overturning of Roe v Wade in June.

The Hunger Games star said she got pregnant in her early 20s and intended to get an abortion, but soon suffered a miscarriage.

“I had a miscarriage alone in Montreal,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence, who gave birth to her first child with husband Cooke Maroney in February, said she fell pregnant again while shooting Netflix hit Don’t Look Up, which began production in late 2020.

She told journalist Abby Aguirre she wanted to have the baby, having been newly married and ready, but it wasn’t meant to be.

“She had to get a D&C, the surgical procedure by which tissue is removed from the uterus,” Aguirre wrote.

Lawrence, who also revealed she named her son Cy, said her personal traumas made the overturning of Roe v Wade, which saw the Supreme Court strip the rights of millions of women to get abortions in the US, all the more distressing.

“I remember a million times thinking about it while I was pregnant. Thinking about the things that were happening to my body. And I had a great pregnancy. I had a very fortunate pregnancy. But every single second of my life was different,” she said.

“And it would occur to me sometimes … What if I was forced to do this?”

Elsewhere in the interview, Lawrence also opened up about her difficult relationship with her conservative family, particularly her father, revealing the 2016 election of Donald Trump caused a rift.

Lawrence was raised in a Republican household in Louisville, Kentucky, but has since developed her own political views.

“I just worked so hard in the last five years to forgive my dad and my family and try to understand: It’s different. The information they are getting is different. Their life is different,” she said.

“I’ve tried to get over it and I really can’t. I can’t. I’m sorry, I’m just unleashing, but I can’t f**k with people who aren’t political anymore. You live in the United States of America. You have to be political. It’s too dire. Politics are killing people.”

She added: “I’m raising a little boy who is going to go to school one day. Guns are the number one cause of death for children in the United States. And people are still voting for politicians who receive money from the NRA. It blows my mind.

“I mean if Sandy Hook didn’t change anything? We as a nation just went, ‘OK.’

“We are allowing our children to lay down their lives for our right to a second amendment that was written over 200 years ago.”
