Ben Affleck ‘got emotional’ during wedding speech to Jennifer Lopez

The actor reportedly became overwhelmed with emotion during his wedding speech to Jennifer Lopez, in which he referenced their previous engagement.

Ben Affleck became emotional during his wedding speech to Jennifer Lopez when the celebrity coupled celebrated their nuptials over the weekend.

Affleck, 50, referenced his earlier engagement to Lopez, 53, in a speech that talked about both of their children, reported American magazine Us Weekly.

“Ben made an impassioned speech professing his love for Jennifer and her kids and said the children are the blessing and gift that happened because they didn’t get married before and that is proof that everything happens for a reason,” according to Us Weekly’s source.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck held a lavish wedding at the weekend after previously getting married in Vegas.

Affleck and Lopez threw a lavish wedding reception at his plantation-style estate in Georgia this past weekend. Guests at the soiree included his long-time friends Matt Damon and Kevin Smith.

According to the Us Weekly source, the wedding weekend in Georgia was like a “fairytale” and that the long wait had been “worth it”.

The source said, “Jennifer looked like a princess and was flawless. Everyone had an amazing time and danced the night away. It was very intimate and all about celebrating their love for one another and their family.”

Affleck and Lopez legally wed in Las Vegas in July in an elopement which took fans by surprise.

The loved-up couple had previously been engaged in 2002 and their high-profile romance was closely followed by the media and spawned the first celebrity portmanteau, ‘Bennifer’.

But they called it quits in 2004 amid all the media intrusion.

Affleck went on to marry Jennifer Garner not long after and had three children with her – Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13 and Samuel, 10. Lopez wed singer Marc Anthony and together they have twins Emma and Maximillian, 14.

Affleck and Garner’s divorce was finalised in 2018 while Lopez and Anthony parted ways in 2014.

Affleck and Lopez were spotted together on holiday in May 2021, fuelling speculation the former couple had rekindled their romance.

They made their red carpet debut (for the second time) at the Venice Film Festival in August 2021 and by April this year, Lopez announced in her fan newsletter that the pair were engaged again.

She wrote at the time, “Saturday night while at my favourite place on Earth (in the bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed. I was totally taken off-guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time.”

When Affleck and Lopez wed in July, she posted in her newsletter, “We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”
