Golden Globes 2024 red carpet: Margot Robbie, Taylor Swift make glam arrivals
It’s that time of the year again – and unsurprisingly, Margot Robbie has stolen the show at the Golden Globes in her Barbie-core getup.

Hollywood’s brightest stars have descended on the iconic Bevery Hilton in Los Angeles for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards.
It’s one of the most prestigious film and TV awards ceremonies alongside the Oscars, Emmys, Screen Actors’ Guild Awards and the BAFTAs – and is this year expected to be dominated by the “Barbenheimer” effect which swept the global box office in 2023.
The ceremony is now underway, and news.com.au is across all the action from inside the theatre, including all the winners.
Heading into the event, Megahit Barbie led the field with nine nominations, including Margot Robbie for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, while its premiere partner Oppenheimer was hot on its heels with eight.
Cillian Murphy, who played American “father of the atomic bomb”, J. Robert Oppenheimer, was also nominated for Best Actor in a Drama.
Meanwhile, HBO’s hit series Succession has already set a Globes record for the most nominations ever received by a TV show in a single year – nine.
Before any of the iconic golden statues were handed out though, it was all about the red carpet.
In what should come as a surprise to approximately no one, Margot Robbie made a show-stopping entrance in a hot pink Armani dress with tulle shawl, continuing her months-long run of Barbie-core fashion:
Robbie’s “Barbenheimer” co-captain, Cillian Murphy, kept his look simple:
Morning Wars star and awards show veteran Jennifer Aniston was typically glam in a black strapless dress:
Music megastars Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift both stunned in glamorous full-length gowns:
Adelaide-born actress and Succession star Sarah Snook, who was up for Best Actress in a Drama, looked sensational in a black tulle gown featuring sheer lace panels:
Fellow Aussie Elizabeth Debicki, who has earned widespread praise for her incredible portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, earning a nod herself in the Best Supporting Actress gong, was a vision:
America Ferrera, Natalie Portman and Kate Beckinsale followed suit in eye-catching, shimmering metallic gowns:
Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan also went metallic... but with a bit of a The Shape of Water flair:
Elizabeth Olsen, Keri Russell, Elle Fanning and Camila Morrone embraced this year’s white trend:
.... While The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, Oppenheimer’s Florence Pugh, and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan opted for a much brighter hue:
Original The Color Purple star and producer of the new remake, Oprah Winfrey, hit the exact right shade for the occasion.
Saltburn star Rosamund Pike opted for a very quirky look, which she explained to a reporter ahead of the show was a creative solution to a facial injury from a recent “skiing accident”.
Her co-star and fellow nominee - arguably one of the biggest breakout stars of 2023 - Barry Keoghan was dapper in red:
Black Panther star and film icon Angela Bassett donned an off-the-shoulder black velvet dress:
Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham turned heads in a form-fitting, sheer lace gown.
Selena Gomez was decked out in an asymmetrical red gown with daring cut-outs:
Poker Face actress Natasha Lyonne was vying for the top prize in the Best Actress in a musical or comedy category, but first, she paid homage to the Eye of Sauron (greetings, fellow Lord of the Rings nerds):
Bradley Cooper brought his mum, Gloria Campano, as his date. The Maestro actor was nominated for Best Actor and Best Director for the biographical drama:
Meanwhile, Fast and the Furious actress Jordana Brewster opted for a very racy side-cut on her cropped top, which she paired with an elegant, full-length skirt:
Allison Williams, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a limited series for Fellow Travellers, blended trends with sequins, tulle and a peplum waist:
Best Actress in a Drama TV series nominee, The Last of Us’ Bella Ramsey, went... casual?
Ozark and Inventing Anna star Julia Garner glittered in sequins:
16-year-old Ariana Greenblatt - who played surly teenager Sasha in Barbie - bucked the dress trend in favour of a modern suit and shirt combo.
Two-time Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson (Best Supporting Actress in a Mini-Series for The Crown in 2021, and Best Actress in a TV drama for The X-Files in 1997) was classic and understated in a simple white ballgown with diamond accessories.
1923 and The Politician’s Julia Schlaepfer channelled old-fashioned Hollywood glam with a halter-neck white satin gown, featuring button detailing and a train:
Justin Hartley – best known for his starring role in This Is Us – and his actress wife, Sofia Pernas, were among the first guests to arrive:
Stand-up comedian actor Jo Koy was this year’s host, marking his first time in the role.
Koy, who is known for his Netflix stand-up specials and previous gig as a panellist on former late-night show, Chelsea Lately, was hired just nine days out from the big event.
“This has definitely been a crash course in how to emcee a major event,” he told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the ceremony, adding that he wanted to make sure it was a “celebration” following the months-long Hollywood strikes.
“The industry got hit hard. Really did. And there are a lot of us that were affected by it, including myself. I had to put my career to a halt.
“It was scary. And now we’re back. So, let’s remind ourselves of what happened and let’s celebrate that we’re back.”
