Pop star Taylor Swift has been slammed for attending her boyfriend’s NFL game yesterday instead of supporting Kamala Harris at a star-studded political rally.
The 34-year-old singer was seen cheering in the stands alongside her mum as her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team, the Chiefs, played against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The game coincided with Kamala Harris’ final rally for the US election, a star-studded affair with the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry performing to show their support.
So when Swift failed to make an appearence, New York-based magazine site The Cut published a piece with the headline, “Taylor Swift chose football over Kamala Harris”.
The caption called Swift out for being at the game with her “Trump-y friends, the Mahomes” instead of campaigning for the Democratic candidate the day before the election.
The article on The Cut by Olivia Craighead and Danielle Cohen outlined their disappointment that she wasn’t being more political.

The article argued that her appearance at the Harris rally, held in the key swing state of Pennsylvania would have made “perfect sense” because she was on a break from The Eras tour.
“If anyone could sway the white women of Bucks County to vote for Harris, it’s Swift. There’s no doubt in my mind that the Harris campaign tried their damndest to get her there, too,” the writers claimed.
The article also pointed out that instead of being at the rally, she spent the game cheering alongside Patrick Mahome’s wife, who fans have long speculated is a Trump supporter.
The writers also criticised Swift because she wore no Harris or Democratic merchandise when she attended the game.
But fans online weren’t impressed with the criticism of Swift, who has already endorsed Ms Harris publically online.

“Her post endorsing Kamala has over 11 million likes. She posted yesterday reminding fans to vote. I think she’s allowed a few hours to enjoy herself and support her partner,” one wrote.
“Are you going to call out male artists who didn’t show up for Kamala yesterday as well? Or does only Taylor get the hate?”, another asked.
“This is actually the most dangerous post I have seen so far. To tear down this self-made American woman and try and distort her reality is sick,” one argued.
“She already publicly endorsed a candidate. Why are you trying to make people mad?”, another asked.
“Bullying and shaming women just never ends, does it,” someone said.
“There’s still time to delete this post,” another noted.
Swift, who has more than 200 million followers on Instagram, already endorsed Ms Harris on social media.
She wrote that she was voting for Ms Harris because she believes she’s “fighting for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior and champion for them”, explaining that she’d done her research and was certain of her decision.
Swift signed off on the endorsement as a “childless cat lady,” a jab at JD Vance, whose 2021 comments about female Democrats went viral after he was announced as Trump’s vice president pick.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Mr Vance complained that America was being run by Democrats and “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
Swift offering her endorsement is a big deal. She’s arguably the most famous woman in the world, and she didn’t speak about politics until 2018.
The singer, who didn’t discuss politics in 2016 when Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were running for president, broke her political silence in 2018.
She took to social media to call out Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn and reveal why she’d be voting for Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives.
She wrote that she’d always been “reluctant” to discuss politics but felt differently about that now.
In the 2020 documentary Miss Americana, Swift was seen arguing with her team, and even her own dad, about her decision to talk politics.
While her team argued that discussing politics was risky and could ultimately be a safety risk for Swift or even half her audience, the singer stood up to them.
“I need to be on the right side of history. Dad, I need you to forgive me for doing it, because I’m doing it,” she said.
