Australian actress Teresa Palmer has shared her family’s heart-wrenching ordeal as the star recently suffered a miscarriage.
The Hacksaw Ridge actress, 38, had privately found out she was pregnant with her fifth child three months ago.
Sharing a deeply emotional video on Instagram, Palmer showed snippets of beautiful family moments shared during the pregnancy, which included clips of her four children kissing her tummy, and her young son’s excitement over finding out his mum was expecting.
The Ride Like A Girl star, who has been married to husband Mark Webber for 10 years, also included several photos of herself smiling while caressing her growing bump.
About halfway through the video – which is set to a piano ballad of Somewhere Over The Rainbow – Palmer can be seen breaking down in tears after learning she’d lost her baby.
To support other women going through the pain of pregnancy loss, the Adelaide-born star bravely chose to come forward with her ordeal.
“It feels really good to be able to share my story. Honoured and grateful to have been able to carry this little soul, my fifth baby, in my heart and body for the past three months,” Palmer wrote alongside the video.
“Sometimes in life things happen that we just don’t understand.
“Brimming with gratitude for my people who have held me close during this time. To anyone who knows the pain of pregnancy loss, sending you immense love.”
Webber and Palmer share two daughters and two sons, while the Aussie star is also a stepmother to Webber’s son from his previous relationship with US actress Frankie Shaw.
Palmer has also shared her full story this week’s episode of her popular podcast, The Mother Daze Podcast.
She shares how her six-year-old son Forest helped her through the first night of grieving.
“I just felt such grief for this little baby,” Palmer said.
“Forest heard me [crying] and woke up – this is the most moving part – he grabbed my face with his hands and just nurtured me like I was his child. He pulled my head into his chest and wiped the tears off my face. And he just held me.”
Despite the difficult ordeal, Palmer said she’s “feeling good” to talk about her experience openly.
“I want to put a disclaimer out there that I happen to be in a good spiritual headspace, so my response to this pregnancy loss is not probably the typical response,” she said.
“I did certainly grieve my experience, but I just have a unique perspective on it.”
