Thomas Markle issues desperate plea to Meghan after lifesaving surgery: ‘I don’t want to die estranged’

Thomas Markle has sent a desperate plea to his estranged daughter Meghan, while disputing her claims she contacted him following his leg amputation surgery.

Thomas Markle has issued as heartfelt plea to his estranged daughter Meghan Markle, while also rubbishing reports she reached out to him following his lifesaving surgery this week.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday from his hospital bed in Cebu, Philippines, the 81-year-old begged his daughter to visit him at the intensive care unit where he remains in a stable condition after having his left leg amputated below the knee after he became gravely ill.

The retired Hollywood lighting director, who now lives in the Philippines, begged the Suits star to visit him “one more time before I die”, revealing his hopes of seeing son-in-law Prince Harry and grandchildren Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, “before it’s too late”.

Thomas also told the outlet that he hasn’t changed his phone number since Meghan, 44, cut him off just before her wedding to Harry in 2018, in the hopes that she decides to “get in touch with me”.

However, he continues to hear nothing from his daughter, leaving him “confused” with reports this week that said she had reached out to him after his emergency surgery.

“I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter,” he told the site, adding that he “would love to speak to her”.

“I have never stopped loving her. I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too.”

Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, 61, has also slammed reports that the royal has checked in on their dad

“Houston there’s been no contact… Time to stop the PR b******* Medusa,” she tweeted on Saturday, before writing in a separate tweet, “Having paparazzi lurking and bushes doesn’t constitute reaching out LOL.”

His new interview comes after a spokesman for the Duchess of Sussex said in a statement to news.com.au: “I can confirm she has reached out to her father.”

The Cebu hospital backs Thomas’ claims that Meghan has not been in touch.

With permission from Thomas, a hospital rep told the Mail on Sunday that neither their administration office, reception nor the intensive care unit has heard from Meghan or her representatives.

“Mr Markle is a VIP patient. Of course we all know who he is. If Meghan or anyone connected with her had called here we would have known. It is a big hospital by Filipino standards but we all know each other and we all talk,” a separate hospital source said.

“We were all confused when we saw the story that the duchess had reached out to her dad. As far as we are aware it didn’t happen. We would love to see the duchess here in the Philippines.”

Thomas is currently recovering in ICU with his son, Thomas Jr – Meghan’s 59-year-old older half brother – by his side after a blood clot in his thigh reportedly cut off circulation, leaving doctors with the drastic decision to amputate.

“There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death,” Thomas Jr said in an earlier interview with Daily Mail.

“My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly.

“I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.”

Thomas also pleaded with Meghan to show their father “some compassion”.

“He is literally fighting for his life,” Thomas Jr added.

Thomas Sr has suffered with ill health, including a stroke, in recent years and had been living in Mexico for the past 10 years before relocating to the Philippines in January.

He also suffered two heart attacks on the eve of Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018 and was unable to walk his daughter down the aisle.

It came after he had posed for paparazzi pictures ahead of the wedding despite reportedly being advised not to speak to the press.

The father and daughter have been estranged ever since.
