‘Scared’: Meghan’s secret note to podcaster revealed

The podcast host posted a screenshot of a handwritten letter she got from Meghan after sharing her concerned reaction to her show.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is 'underestimated in terms of her influence on culture'

IN LONDON

A well-known podcaster has revealed the personal note she received from Meghan after publicly sharing that she was “scared” about the backlash the duchess was going to receive for her new show.

Not Skinny But Not Fat host Amanda Hirsch took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a photo of the handwritten note, sent to her two weeks after the release of With Love, Meghan.

It was in response to Hirsch posting her reaction to the show’s trailer back in January, in which she admitted she was concerned that it would make the “inauthentic” claims against Meghan even “stronger” as her demeanour had appeared “forced”.

The Duchess of Sussex had a very cheeky response, writing to the podcaster on her personalised stationery and reminding her that this is “the fun part”.

“Dear Amanda, I heard you were feeling scared. Don’t be! This is the fun part — let’s enjoy it,” Meghan wrote in the letter, which was posted on Instagram.

“Beyond shook. Beyond spiralling,” Hirsch, 33, captioned the Story.

“Did I smell the paper? Yes! Do I want my own monogram? Yes. Am I absolutely flabbergasted and obsessed? F**K. YES. @meghan you have a fan for life.”

With Love, Meghan premiered earlier this month, and despite scathing reviews, was confirmed to be returning for season two within days.

The new episodes had already been filmed.

Industry bible Variety’s review was among the most brutal, describing it as a “Montecito ego trip not worth taking”.

“The show plays out like a forced march, one in which Meghan’s guests must, as the price of getting to share an afternoon in a made-for-TV kitchen with her, praise her first,” the review read.

“With Love, Meghan is made with a great deal of love – in the sense that the greatest love of all is the one that a person has for herself.”

Meanwhile, the official ratings for the long-awaited lifestyle and cooking show were released last week, with widespread interest seeing it fall within Netflix’s Top 10 shows, amassing 2.6 million views and 12.6 million hours watched as of March 12.

It was well behind ratings leader, the Kate Hudson-led comedy Running Point, which collected 61.8 million viewing hours across the same week.

By comparison, Prince Harry and Meghan’s most successful Netflix project, 2022’s Harry & Meghan, premiered with 81.6 million hours viewed in its first three days and added another 97.7 million in its first full week – making it Netflix’s biggest documentary debut ever.

With Love, Meghan was filmed in Montecito, California, the neighbourhood where Meghan and Harry live with their two kids, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3 – although their actual home wasn’t used.

It marked the duchess’ first solo venture as part of her and Harry’s five-year multimillion-dollar Netflix deal, which is reportedly due to expire this year.
