Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson weighs in on ongoing royal drama

A major royal stand-off has been unfolding for months – and Sarah Ferguson was asked about it directly during a TV interview.

Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson has given a cryptic response when asked about Prince Andrew’s reported ongoing stand-off with his brother, King Charles, over their royal lodging.

Despite Ferguson and the Duke of York divorcing in 1996, the pair have remained close and still live together in the sprawling $56 million Royal Lodge within the Windsor estate.

However, it’s been widely reported since early last year that the King has been attempting to negotiate the eviction of his younger brother, who was forced to step back from official duties in 2019 over his ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

While Andrew still holds the long-term lease on the 98-acre, 30-room home, it’s understood that Charles has suggested he vacates the property and downgrades to the nearby Frogmore Cottage – the former home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – but Andrew has so far refused.

Asked in an interview with ¡HOLA! TV about the ongoing stand-off, Ferguson warned cryptically: “Don’t always believe what you read.”

When pressed further, she claimed she wasn’t privy to conversations surrounding the Royal Lodge’s occupancy, adding: “I don’t know. I take every day as it comes.”

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the King had upped the ante in the housing battle by firing the 10-person security team stationed at Royal Lodge.

“They are all working the final weeks of their contract till the end of October. It’s not thought anyone is being lined up to replace them,” a palace insider told the outlet.

“Everyone is speculating this means the Duke will have to leave the Royal Lodge because what other reason could there be to take his security away?”

The months-long housing debacle has previously been dubbed by insiders as the “siege of Royal Lodge”, according to the UK’s Times.

Palace sources claimed earlier this year that the King – who has been funding Andrew’s post-royal life – could “reconsider the levels of support he is willing to provide” if his younger brother continues to refuse his offers of new lodgings.

King Charles has reportedly been attempting to evict his brother.

In June, royal author Christopher Anderson claimed the duke was standing firm.

“Andrew’s holding on by his fingertips right now, perhaps hoping that one of his wealthy friends might kick in some funds,” he told Fox News.

“But it’s highly doubtful that would work. King Charles III is becoming increasingly impatient and wants to simultaneously punish his brother, show everyone who’s boss and restore Royal Lodge to its former glory.”

The complex stand-off between the brothers is worsened by the fact that Andrew does in fact still hold the 75-year lease on the property – but Charles controls the purse strings.

“As things stand, life at Royal Lodge is set to become increasingly cold and uncomfortable for the duke,” a source told the publication.

“The only question now is when he will realise that he has become a prisoner of his own pride – and that handing back the keys will afford him far greater comfort, and the continued support of his family.”
