Meghan Markle has sparked confusion after her son, Prince Archie, asked her a bizarre question during their visit to Disneyland.
The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry spoke on a documentary about the Florida theme park, detailing their family trip to celebrate Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday.
During the interview, Meghan mentioned at one point her six-year-old was so excited, he asked when his birthday was.
Eagle-eyed royal fans took to social media to speculate as to whether a child of his age should already know his birthday.
The Duchess said: “For us to be able to have our own childhood memories and then watch that play out through our daughter’s birthday, and Archie said, “When’s my birthday?”’
Her anecdote was told in a good-humoured way, but the comment sparked concern from fans who insisted the young Prince should already know this.
Some pointed out that Archie had even celebrated his birthday the month prior to the trip, on May 6, with Meghan sharing a sunset snap of her son in a posh Mexican resort.
“A six-year-old knows when his birthday is,” on X-user stated.
Another added: “At six, he must’ve remembered he’d just had a birthday?”
“Archie would have just celebrated his birthday a couple of weeks prior... would he ask you two weeks later when his birthday is? A third agreed.
“The fact that he says ‘when is my birthday?’ when he literally just had a birthday before her is sad,” a fourth said.
Others defended the youngster, explaining the concept of time isn’t easy to grasp - especially for a child.
One posted: “I know it seems odd, but my 6-year-old did the same thing... as much as we try to explain it, he really does not have a good concept of time yet.”
“He might have meant how long until,” another suggested.
A third said: “Not every child at six knows time, clock, hours, days of the week or months.”
The conflicting comment was made on the ABC News special titled The Happiest Story On Earth: 70 Years Of Disneyland, which was released on Sunday.
However, the Duke and Duchess’ cameo in the documentary has been highly criticised for their appearance, with the move being branded as a cash grab and hypocritical of a couple who insisted on privacy.
The 83-minute movie takes audiences into the history of the Disneyland theme park and its creator, Walt Disney, but fans have asked what this has to do with the royals.
Despite the backlash, it’s clear the family had a great time at the attraction, sharing a series of snaps from their time at the resort.
In the show, Prince Harry reminisced about the time he visited the park with his brother and Diana at eight years old
‘I remember it very, very well. I remember losing it as a kid with all the characters. Like, losing it,” he joked.
