Meghan Markle admits she was ‘inauthentic’ in UK as she unleashes new attack on Royals
Meghan Markle has made a fresh attack on the royal family as she clarified what her real name is after the Sussex surname drama.
Meghan Markle has opened up about how her life felt “inauthentic … several years ago” in a fresh attack on the royal family, as she revealed her real name.
The mum-of-two, who lives in a US$29 million Montecito mansion and spends her evenings learning French on translation app Duo Lingo, was asked during an interview with Bloomberg Originals if it’s hard to appear “relatable”.
The Duchess of Sussex revealed struggling with being “herself” while observing the royals’ protocols that she couldn’t stick to before Megxit.
The Sun reports Meghan explained: “I think it was probably different several years ago where I couldn’t be as vocal and I had to wear nude pantyhose all the time.
“Let’s be honest, that’s not very myself, I hadn’t seen pantyhose since movies in the eighties when they came in that little egg.
“That felt a little bit inauthentic, but that’s a silly example, but it is an example of when you’re able to dress the way you wanna dress and you’re able to say the things that are true and you’re able to show up in the space really organically that’s being comfortable in your own skin.”
“I’m just being myself.”
She was asked by host Emily Chang: “What have you learned about your self since becoming a Sussex?”
Meghan responded: “What I’ve learned about myself, is no matter what my name is or what people call me, I’m still the same person.
“So that didn’t really change who I am. And maybe that’s probably the biggest distinguishing factor.”
Meghan created confusion over what her real last name is earlier this year, when she told TV star Mindy Kaling in the first season of Netflix’s With Love, Meghan that she goes by “Sussex” now.
The topic came up, again, during Meghan’s appearance on Bloomberg Original’s The Circuit. The interview came out the same day as the second season of Markle’s critically panned lifestyle show.
She emphasised how her legal name is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
When asked by Ms Chang is she feels as though she owns her life story now, the Duchess confessed: “I know I do.”
Ms Chang asked if there was anything she wanted for her children regarding family - that was “different” to what Harry and Meghan experienced.
Markle said she wanted her kids to “carve out the life they want for themselves”.
The Duchess said this would be “very reflective” of choices made by herself and the Duke.
She also spoke of wanting financial independence for her children.
“I grew up clipping coupons, I grew up looking for deals and the sale rack. I always worked,” she said.
Asked what her go-to kids’ meal is, Meghan said she feeds them chicken nuggets and tater tots out of the freezer, that and Lilibet loves macaroni cheese.
Her veiled digs during her Bloomberg interview with Emily Chang are not the first.
The Duchess of Sussex has previously alluded to the fact she has “receipts” that could back up her allegations against The Firm.
Harry and Meghan have repeatedly lashed out at the Royal Family with their infamous 2021 Oprah interview, their Netflix docuseries, the Duke’s book Spare, and his most recent explosive BBC interview.
MEGHAN SHARES RARE VIDEO OF LILIBET KISSING PRESENT FROM HARRY
Meghan Markle has shared a rare video of her daughter Lilibet as she aims to promote her new “cringe-fest” show.
The Duchess of Sussex posted the story on her Instagram this afternoon showing Lilibet, 4, just hours after the second series of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan landed on screens.
The cute clip sees Meghan walking through a home towards a portrait that’s resting on the side of a kitchen counter.
Lilibet - donning pink pyjamas - can be seen walking up to the picture, which is wrapped with white ribbon, before kissing the image.
The clip, captioned: “Morning surprise from my husband,” films the photograph, which shows Meghan playing with the family’s beloved dog Guy, who passed away earlier this year.
After Lilibet kisses Guy in the picture, she walks away, as Meghan zooms in closer to the sweet black-and-white image.
The song My Guy, by Mary Wells, plays in the background of the short video.
This comes as Meghan tries to promote the new “cringey” season of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan.
Critics have slammed the new episodes as another example of the Sussexes “taking a dig” at the Royal Family.
In the fourth episode, she risked reigniting a royal row after appearing to refer to her infamous claim she was forced to wear neutral colours, an expert claimed.
It comes as the second season of the Duchess’ Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan, debuts after the first was widely panned by critics.
In one episode, Meghan explains one of her most notable cooking mishaps - which was ill-timed as it occurred on the night Prince Harry proposed.
“I was still having a lot of challenges with the conversion of Celsius and Fahrenheit,” Meghan said.
“I made a horrible chicken that night. So the point is, you can make a terrible chicken, and someone is still going to appreciate the thought.”
The Duchess of Sussex, who posted a picture of herself busy watering the garden, has double the reason as new products from her As Ever brand have also been released.
“At As ever, we keep growing and growing. Your favourites (and more) are back ... as we also celebrate the launch of Season 2 of “With Love, Meghan” on @netflix,” the caption read.
A newsletter for As ever with the subject line “A case of the Mondays?” said the product includes a “delectable new fruit spread.”
“And just to add to the music to your ears, we are excited to share so many more new offerings as we transition to fall,” Meghan said in the newsletter.
It is the third product drop for As ever, following previous launches in April and June. Both times, the assortment of fruit preserves, honey, teas, flower sprinkles and more sold out.
However this time the Duchess appears to be more prepared for hers fans’ insatiable appetite for her fruit spreads and other little luxuries with the online store still offering a full range hours after the new products went live.
With Love, Meghan’s second series is billed as “fun and heartwarming”, with plethora of celebrity guests making an appearance.
This includes model Chrissy Teigen, podcast pal Jamie Kern Lima, and Queer Eye star, Tan France.
Meghan can be seen laughing alongside guests at her luxury California home in the trailer for the second run, even joking at the end about Prince Harry’s lack of love for lobster.
Speaking to Chef Andrés, she says: “You know who doesn’t like lobster? My husband.”
In response, the chef lightheartedly retorts: “And you married him anyway?”
In one cringey moment during the trailer, in which she is seen cooking and baking with celebrity friends, the Duchess of Sussex also says: “I love the idea of just spending time together … and finding new ways to show people you care.”
The former actress has been busy on social media lately, only days ago she posted footage of her husband Prince Harry showing off his surfing skills.
In the 18-second video, the Duke of Sussex can be seen flying over the waves.
In March, it was revealed Meghan’s show would be returning for a second series.
The show dropped on the streaming giant and the Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle show was widely derided by viewers and reviewers alike.
But the huge interest in the program, which features Meghan with cameos from husband Prince Harry, convinced Netflix bosses to give it another outing.
The duchess posted on Instagram at the time saying she’s “thrilled” with the decision.
Wearing a Netflix cap she was seen grinning in a short clip on her stories, with the caption: “Lettuce romaine calm … or not(!) because I’m thrilled to share that Season 2 of ‘With Love, Meghan’ is coming!”
A TV insider said: “This may raise a few eyebrows but one thing which Netflix love is controversy – and this show certainly created a lot of debate.
“Many were so scathing about the eight-part series that they thought there was no way it would get another season.
“But it seems the streamer is delighted with the chatter its created on both sides of the Atlantic this week.”
With Love, Meghan is the second Netflix collaboration for the Sussexes, who signed a lucrative multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming giant back in 2020.
