Queen Mary stuns in first official portrait with King Frederik X

King Frederik and Queen Mary kept a united front in the first official portraits with the royal family since ascending the throne of Denmark. See the regal images.

Queen Mary stuck a regal figure as she was pictured with King Frederik X for the royal family’s first official portrait since ascending the throne of Denmark.

The Royal House of Denmark released a series of images showing the newly-crowned King and Queen standing united, and alongside the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Christian, 18.

A third image shows the whole family together as they are joined by Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, both 13.

“The Throne Hall at Christiansborg Castle forms the frame for the first official portraits of Their Majesties The King and Queen,” said the caption on the images posted to Instagram.

The portrait series, taken by photographer Dennis Stenild moments after King Frederik X was proclaimed King, comes days after the Monarch opened up about his marriage in a surprise biography.

“I love marriage, my wife, our children and the whole happy base that arises for the people who manage to stay together and persevere,” the King said in “The King’s Word”.

After months of speculation over the couple’s marriage amid rumours of an affair with a Mexican socialite, the book revealed the King’s rare private thoughts captured in a series of interviews over the past 18 months.

“I have learned a lot from having a wife who, from time to time, reminds me that of course I am not always right, and that my words are not automatically believed, just because I am a man in the house,” he said.

In his proclamation speech on the balcony just moments before the official portraits were taken, King Frederik spoke about the support of his “beloved wife” and family.

“Today, the throne passes on. My hope is to become a gathering king of tomorrow. It is a task I have approached all my life. It is a responsibility I take on with respect, pride and great joy,” he said.

“It is a deed I will make an effort to carry through the trust I encounter. I need all the support I can get. From my beloved wife, from my family, from you and from that which is greater than us. I face the future with the certainty that I am not alone. Bound, bound, for the Kingdom of Denmark.”
