Princess Isabella of Denmark secretly paid a nod to her Aussie mum Mary as she celebrated her 18th birthday.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the stunning brunette borrowed her mother’s diamond fringe earrings as she stepped out for a gala performance in celebration of the milestone in Copenhagen – days before her actual birthday on April 21.

King Frederik, Queen Mary, Queen Margrethe, Prince Christian, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine were also by Isabella’s side at The Royal Danish Theatre.

Mary bought the pair of diamond ear pendants in 2016 on auction at Bruun Rasmussen for 40,000 DKK ($A9,6000), according to royalwatcherblog.

She first debuted the earrings in Norway for King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th Birthday Gala at the Opera in Oslo in May 2017.

Mary has worn the jewels on many occasions, notably with her wedding tiara for Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th birthday gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in 2023.

Isabella matched the jewels with a shimmering dark navy gown and an updo hairstyle.

More than 1000 young people between the ages of 17 and 24 from across Denmark and its territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland also attended the performance after winning tickets through a lottery.

Earlier in the week, an event was held at Aarhus City Hallon for Isabella including a day of music, sport, cuisine and design.

The princess spoke at the event, thanking the city for celebrating her.

“Thank you so much for a very special birthday celebration. It makes me really happy to be celebrated in a city that means a lot to me and my family,” the Danish Royal House said in an excerpt of Isabella’s speech.

However, the eye-watering cost of the extravagant celebrations has raised eyebrows.
The Aarhus municipality revealed the cost of thei reevent was upwards of 290,000 Kroner $A70,000.

The royal family is also expected to hold a private birthday celebration for Princess Isabella with family and loved ones on her actual birthday.
