“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London,” the statement from the Palace read.

“The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces. (2.3kg)

“Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The couple first shared their pregnancy news via a Palace statement in early October, saying they were “very pleased” to be preparing for the birth of another child.

The statement also said the due date was in “early spring” (which runs from March until May in the UK), indicating Athena had likely arrived early.

Beatrice and her husband are already parents to daughter Sienna, three, while Edoardo also has a son, Wolfie (real name Christopher Woolf), eight, with his ex-fiancee.

Edoardo took to Instagram himself to share the happy news, posting a picture of the adorable newborn, describing her as “tiny and absolutely perfect” in the caption, and declaring the whole family “already completely besotted” with her.

“Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena,” he went on.

“A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”

The non-working royal couple wed in July 2020 at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park and welcomed their daughter in September the following year.

Edoardo was previously engaged to Dara Huang, the mother of his son.

The newest royal baby will join the line of succession in 11th place, behind Sienna and Beatrice, while Princess Eugenie will be pushed back to 12th.

Like the baby’s older sister, she will not be known as HRH or have a royal title.

She will be Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s fourth grandchild, joining Sienna as well as Eugenie’s sons, August, 3, and Ernest Brooksbank, 1.

Ferguson also shared a picture of Athena to her own personal Instagram account after the news was shared publicly.

“Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world,” she wrote.

“She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again.”
