Nigeria’s First Lady has slammed the “nakedness” of Hollywood celebrities in a speech made shortly after Meghan Markle’s visit to the African nation.

Speaking at an event in Abuja, the wife of President Bola Tinubu urged teenagers to dress demurely and not “try to emulate film stars from America”, The Sun reports.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu said: “’We have to salvage our children. We see the way they dress. We are not having the Met Gala.

“And everyone, the nakedness, is just everywhere and the men are well-clothed. So we have to do something. Tell them we don’t accept nakedness in our culture. That is not beautiful. It’s not beautiful at all.”

She continued, referencing Meghan and Prince Harry’s recent visit, which critics described as a “quasi royal tour”.

During her visit, Meghan called Nigeria “my country” to the delight of adoring fans and announced she is 43 per cent Nigerian after taking a DNA test.

“And they’re all beautiful girls, but they should be confident in who they are. They do not want to mimic and try to emulate film stars from America,” the First Lady said.

“They don’t know where they come from. Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa? “That is something we have to take home with. We know who we are. Don’t lose who you are.”

Meghan made multiple outfit changes during her visit to the poverty-stricken nation, wearing her favoured high-end labels Carolina Herrera, Altuzarra and Johanna Ortiz.

During their visit, the Sussexes met with dignitaries and played basketball with young children as they unveiled a partnership between their Archewell Foundation and the non-profit Giants of Africa, a group that aims to empower young people through sport.

It came as famed royal photographer Arthur Edwards described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding as “miserable” and the “worst event” he had ever covered.

Edwards, who has been photographing the royal family since 1977, told The Sun that Prince Harry allegedly made his job difficult on the big day.

He told the Sun: “The day was a miserable day. I can tell you now — it was the worst royal engagement I ever did.

“Because Harry was determined to keep the newspapers away from it as much as possible.”

Edwards told The Sun of his frustration over how “everything was done on long lenses” and photographers were kept at a distance.

Edwards was particularly frustrated when he had the opportunity to catch the newlyweds in their carriage as they greeted crowds outside — but couldn’t get the best angle.

“And then the carriage shot where they went past me in the carriage they looked the other way,” he said. “So for me, it was a disaster.”
