Meghan Markle’s former ally Katherine Ryan accuses the duchess of lying about her past

Comedian Katherine Ryan, once a firm defender of Meghan Markle, has revealed why she’s no longer a fan of the duchess.

One of Meghan Markle’s former celebrity allies has turned on the Duchess and accused her of lying about her past.

Katherine Ryan, a Canadian comedian who rose to fame in the UK, was previously vocal about her support for the Duchess, praising her for “challenging the norm” back in 2022.

However, three years later things have changed.

Ryan revealed on the latest episode of her popular podcast Telling Everybody Everything that she no longer calls herself a fan of Meghan.

She claims that Meghan has “lied” in her public interviews since leaving the royal family.

“I liked Meghan Markle. I was rooting for Meghan Markle … though she is very Hollywood – even for me – and I don’t like that in people,” she said on Monday on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything.

“I see now, and maybe it’s just the projects she’s choosing, it does feel like she has lied about whether she knew who Prince Harry was, and these details about her childhood change and don’t add up.”

Ryan went on to suggest that Meghan’s entire schtick feels “very forced” and disingenuous, despite her best efforts.

“She said on her new Netflix show that they ate TV dinners growing up,” she said.

“But then in an old interview, she was like, ‘we would eat farm fresh’. Her whole act just seems very manicured and very forced.”

Ryan’s remarks come after it emerged that Netflix executives are “worried” about the scathing reviews of Meghan’s new series.

An insider at the streaming giant admitted to the Mail Online that With Love, Meghan was not a “runaway success” and the announcement on Friday that season two is confirmed does not mean her and Prince Harry’s Netflix deal will be renewed.

The negative reviews had left Netflix bosses concerned, the source added, especially as they now held a business stake in her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

“The industry bibles like The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are not keen on it,” the insider said.

“Netflix bosses are all worried now because they have invested a lot in the product line. They don’t know when and how to roll it all out.”

With Love, Meghan premiered last Tuesday and while it enjoyed a brief stint in Netflix’s Top 10 section, it’s been almost universally panned by TV critics and has just a 20 per cent rating from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
