Meghan Markle, Princess Catherine: Ingrid Seward on the feud that sparked a royal rift

A leading royal expert has made a startling claim about what sparked Meghan Markle’s feud with Princess Catherine.

Prince William is unlikely to reconcile with his estranged brother Prince Harry in the near future due to the Sussexes’ treatment  of Princess Catherine, a leading royal expert says.

Ingrid Seward, author of the new royal book My Mother and I, said the unproven allegations of racism aimed at Princess Catherine by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had caused enormous hurt and damage.

Princess Catherine, who is recovering from abdominal surgery and will be out of action until at least after Easter, was said to be “deeply saddened” when she was drawn into the Prince Archie skin colour row last November.

The mother of three was identified in a Dutch translation of Omid Scobie’s tell-all book Endgame alongside King Charles as the royals who allegedly made comments about the child’s skin colour before his birth.

The skin colour row originally caused a storm in 2021 when Meghan made the damaging  comments that it had been a topic of discussion for unnamed members of the royal family in her explosive Oprah Winfrey interview with Prince Harry.

Speaking from London, Ms Seward told News Corp Australia there was no chance” of Prince William and Prince Harry mending their fractured relationship.

William 'too hurt' to reconcile with exiled Harry

“I don’t think there’s any chance right now. I think William is far too busy and probably far too hurt by Harry’s remarks about his wife.

“You know, calling her a racist, calling the King a racist and all the other things he said.

“I think William is saying he has absolutely no intention at the moment of having a rapprochement with his brother, but doesn’t mean that in the fullness of time he won’t.”

Referring to Prince Harry’s whirlwind visit to London last month to see King Charles after his cancer diagnosis, Ms Seward said she did not think Meghan would be returning to the UK in the future.

The Sussexes, she said, appeared to be happier than ever in California.

The royal expert said there was a wave of anti-Meghan sentiment in “middle England” due to an overarching view that the former TV actress “controls” Prince Harry.

The respected royal author reiterated her belief that Meghan was “jealous” of Princess Catherine right from the very start of her relationship with Prince Harry.

She said: “I think she was, although she probably never, ever admitted it to herself.

“But I think she was because Catherine was so close to Harry.

“There was  William, Catherine and Harry and they were like the threesome, doing stuff together and when you look back on the photos they all looked really sweet together.

“Harry lived in his little cottage in Kensington Palace, Wills and Kate were just over the road, and he would go and have supper with them.”He’d hang out with them, and they were very close - he introduced them to all his girlfriends. Kate was very friendly with Chelsea Davy, she was friendly with Cressida Bonas

“But when Meghan appeared on the scene, it was quite different because I think people could see that Harry was obsessed with Meghan.

“And Meghan was just so very different.”

Ms Seward said there was an imbalance between the two women from the very beginning.

“Kate is a beautiful girl — she’s married to the number one man,” she said.

“Meghan was getting married to the number two man. Kate had the number one house, the palace, the paintings — she had everything.”
