Royal fans will get their first opportunity to see the King and Queen on their Australian tour today – if they’re lucky.

Members of the public have been invited to see the royals as they come out of St Thomas’ Anglican Church, in North Sydney, following the end of the 11.30am service.

The King and Queen will be met by the Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Reverend Kanishka Raffel and the Bishop of North Sydney and the Right Reverend Chris Edwards.

Also attending the service will be Governor-General Sam Mostyn and her husband Simeon Beckett, and NSW Governor General Margaret Beazley.

The royals will meet with children from the local Sunday school before the service, which will be officiated by the Archbishop of Sydney.

Following the service, their Majesties will meet members of the public.

Anyone hoping to get a spot on the lawn outside are advised to turn up well ahead of the 11am cut-off to allow for security screening and be aware that spaces are “very limited”, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Wellwishers will be hoping the couple will stop and talk to the crowds waiting.

Following the church service the King and Queen have been invited to a reception and will also be meeting with a number of dignitaries.

It is hoped Charles, who paused his cancer treatment in order to travel to Australia, and Camilla, who is known to suffer from jet lag, will be sufficiently rested for today’s activities.

On Saturday they recuperated from their long flight at Admiralty House, in Sydney, which is the residence of the Governor-General.

While they didn’t make a public appearance, they were spotted on the front lawn admiring the view and relaxing on the balcony.

King Charles was also welcomed to Australia with a spate of new honours from Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

The King has been appointed to the honorary ranks of Admiral of the Fleet of the Royal Australian Navy, Field Marshal of the Australian Army, and Marshal of the Royal Australian Air Force.
