King Charles III is a huge fan of Kylie Minogue with the Australian singer making his new and carefully curated playlist of his favourite artists.
The monarch recently bunkered down inside his office at Buckingham Palace to create his collection of favourite hits, which also includes songs from Bob Marley and Grace Kelly.
Titled ‘The King’s Music Room’, the collection of the royal’s favourite hits from musicians in the commonwealth includes a mix of hip hop and reggae to tunes from as early as the 1930s and recent hit songs by more contemporary artists.
But eager listeners will have to hang tight as the titles in the King’s selection won’t be released until Monday evening AEDT to coincide with Commonwealth Day.
That’s when the King and Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales will attend a special service at Westminster Abbey as part of the celebrations for the 56 countries in the commonwealth.
Until then it remains a mystery which of Kylie’s popular hits the monarch has chosen; perhaps The Loco-Motion or more recent singles like Padam Padam.
In a short message upon the release of his personalised collection of hits, Charles said: “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others.
“It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places.
“But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration.
“In other words, it brings us joy.”
Some of the contemporary artists that feature in Charles’s playlist may surprise some and include Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Davido and British singer Raye.
The King’s music collection will be available for free on Apple Music 1 Monday, March 10 from 5pm AEDT or on demand with an Apple Music subscription.
Apple Music’s global head of content and editorial Rachel Newman said she’s thrilled that the monarch has been able to release his favourite hits to the world in one curated selection.
“We are honoured that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us, and with music fans around the world,” he said.
The King’s Music master, Errollyn Wallen, said it was a perfect opportunity to not just share the King’s musical tastes but also to display many hit talents from the Commonwealth.
“You can see His Majesty’s wide-ranging enthusiasm for music in this playlist to mark Commonwealth Day,” she said.
“The Commonwealth has produced more than its fair share of wonderful songs, singers, and musicians, and this fun and eclectic collection is a great reminder of this treasure trove of creativity.”
