Kensington Palace has released a new portrait of Prince George, with the young royal looking happy, relaxed, and a lot like his father as he celebrates his 10th birthday.
The image was taken by British photographer Millie Pilkington, rather than the Princess of Wales, who has taken many of her son’s official portraits in the past.
It shows the prince smiling as he sits on the steps at Windsor.
The youngster — whose full name is Prince George Alexander Louis of Wales — was born in the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London in 2013 amid much fanfare.
As the eldest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the eldest grandchild of King Charles III, he’s currently second in line to the British throne.
Many users have taken to social media, commenting on how quickly the prince has grown up and observing that he shares an incredible likeness to his father — not just because of his facial likeness, but because of the casually refined clothing selected for the shoot.
Prince George is currently enjoying school holidays, but he’s had a busy few weeks.
He recently finished his first year at Lambrook School in Berkshire, where he and his siblings were enrolled following their family’s move to Windsor in 2022.
Since then, he’s watched from the royal box as Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz won his maiden Wimbledon singles title, accompanied his siblings to an air show in Gloucestershire, and paid a visit to Lord’s cricket ground in London to watch the Ashes with his dad.
It’s said the Prince and Princess of Wales are trying to give him as normal a childhood as possible, despite the fact they are raising a future monarch.
Last week, it was announced he will not be expected to serve in the military before becoming King, representing a break in centuries of royal tradition.
Prince William served in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy for seven and a half years after training as a helicopter pilot, although he never served on the front lines.
Meanwhile, King Charles trained as a jet pilot in the Royal Air Force, attended the six-week basic training at the Royal Naval College, and saw active service on HMS Norfolk, which is a guided missile destroyer. He later trained as a helicopter pilot as well.
Even the late Queen Elizabeth II served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service in World War II, training as a driver and mechanic and achieving the rank of Junior Commander.
“It’s a massive balancing act,” a palace insider told People magazine.
“William and Kate are doing the right thing, protecting him so he can have as normal a childhood as possible, but he’s also dipping into duties as a future monarch.
“He’s getting first-hand experience of what it’s like to be a royal and a monarch and first-hand experience of being a normal boy.”
