Fifi Box has revealed the horrific ordeal that left her “traumatised” after a recent holiday to the Maldives with her young daughters, Trixie and Daisy.
The radio personality opened up about the incident this morning on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick program, telling listeners that she saved a baby from almost drowning in the resort swimming pool.
To help tell the extraordinary story, the 48-year-old invited two witnesses, Emma and Pete from Brisbane who were on holiday at the same resort. The pair confirmed her terrifying experience on-air.
The holiday-makers explained that Box had been playing with her daughter Daisy, 6, in the pool when they all noticed a child they believed to be 3 or 4 years old drowning nearby.
The quick-thinking host then swam to the child and pulled her unconscious from the water and began resuscitation until the little girl regained consciousness.
“There was deathly silence around the pool for minutes afterwards,” Box recalled on-air as Emma and Pete agreed.
“I started crying and had to leave; Daisy and I left because it was too confronting. Everyone just froze.”
“I was the only adult in the pool, and I turned around; she would have been 10 metres from me but under the water. We didn’t know how long she had been under for. I plucked her up, and she was vomiting water all over me. It was horrible.”
Further upsetting Box was the fact the mother of the child “didn’t even get off the sun lounge” after the incident and made it seem like the almost-drowning was the child’s fault.
“I’m actually fascinated because I’ve now been tested. I’m someone who freezes whenever something goes wrong, I’m the person who can’t move,” said Box, who is also mum to 12-year-old Trixie.
“When I saw that baby go under, I just raced to her. I was really traumatised. When she was vomiting and coming back to life – she was limp – so when she started to breathe and get all the water out … but the mum hadn’t moved. Everyone just stood around. I was visibly shaken.”
Incident aside, Box said she and her daughters had a good time on their first visit to the Maldives.
“Maldives you were magical everything I imagined you would be,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a slide show of happy photos and videos.
“Such a memorable and idyllic holiday with my girls.”
