Jennifer Aniston has shared heartbreaking never-before-seen photos of Matthew Perry to mark the first anniversary of his death.
The star posted throwback images from the pair’s days working together on the blockbuster sitcom Friends, the show that made them major Hollywood stars.
In her caption, Aniston wrote: “1 year” as she tagged the Matthew Perry Foundation, the non-profit launched by the late star’s loved ones to help those struggling with substance abuse issues.
She also included the emojis for a red heart, a Band-Aid and a dove.
In the first image, a black and white snapshot, Aniston and Perry jokingly pose up for the camera.
The second image shows Perry kissing Aniston’s forehead on the famous Central Perk coffee shop set of Friends.
Another photo shows the Friends cast – Perry, Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Courteney Cox – huddling in a circle behind the scenes.
Perry was found dead in a hot tub aged 54 at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the star, who had long battled addiction, died of acute effects of ketamine.
Aniston’s moving post came after Perry’s mother recalled their final conversation before his tragic death, which she described as a possible “premonition” on her son’s part.
Suzanne Morrison revealed that they had their first heart-to-heart chat in a long time just before he passed away.
“He went through a period interestingly enough just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses,” Ms Morrison told NBC’s Today show.
“He came up to me and said ‘I love you so much and I’m so happy to be with you now’.
“It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn’t think about it at the time but, how long had it been since we had a conversation like that? It’s been years.
“There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly.
“But he said, ‘I’m not frightened any more’, and it worried me … I think it was this new medication that he was on.”
Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, recalled the devastating moment the family received the news that Perry had died.
“Somebody called Suzanne and just said, ‘Matthew’s dead’,” he told Today.
Ms Morrison said the caller told her: “Matthew’s dead. Your son is dead.”
She said she knew her son was “very lonely in his soul”.
“I’m a very lucky woman, but there was one glitch, one problem that I couldn’t conquer,” she said. “You’ve got to stop blaming yourself because it tears you up.”
