Martha Stewart publicly disses Ryan Reynolds: ‘Not so funny in real life’

Martha Stewart, who is neighbours with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, has publicly dissed the comedic actor, repeatedly saying he’s “not funny” off-camera.

He may be most renowned for his comedic acting chops, but Martha Stewart claims that’s where Ryan Reynolds’ humour ends.

The US TV personality, 83, has lived in the same New York neighbourhood as Reynolds, 48, and his wife Blake Lively, 37, for several years.

And while Stewart and the A-list Hollywood couple were thought to be on friendly terms, with Lively even teaming up with Stewart for work opportunities in the past, the foodie queen says Reynolds is “not so funny in real life.”

Appearing as a special guest on Bilt Rewards’ Rent Free game show, Stewart was asked which celebrities respondents would have guessed were the “most fun” to hang out with.

Stewart predicted the Deadpool & Wolverine actor would’ve been a popular choice among punters, though stated he didn’t deserve a top spot.

“But you want to know something? He’s not so funny in real life,” Stewart told Bilt Rewards CEO Ankur Jain. “No, he’s not so funny. He’s very serious.”

Jain was surprised by Stewart’s statement, prompting her to double down.

“He’s a good actor,” Stewart continued. “He can act funny, but he isn’t funny. Maybe he can get to be funny again.

“I’m going to get in trouble,” she added. “He’s my neighbour.”

As for who did deserve a spot on the list, Stewart said she’d rank Taylor Swift at number 1, followed by Snoop Dogg, George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Back in 2014, Reynolds’ wife Lively drew comparisons to lifestyle queen Stewart when she launched her own (now-defunct) website Preserve.

The Gossip Girl actress was gracious when asked about Stewart in interviews at the time, telling Vogue, “I’ve only ever found her [Stewart] to be completely generous and kind. She’s one of those people who connect people with each other. She’s there for you.”

However, Stewart appeared to jokingly diss Lively’s venture at the time, describing the website as a “blog”, before quipping “let her try [to be me]”.

“I don’t mean that facetiously,” Stewart insisted. “I mean, it’s stupid, she could be an actress!”

Any tension appeared to be water under the bridge by late 2014, when Stewart invited Lively to speak at her annual American Made summit to promote Preserve, which Lively went on to shut down a year later.

Lively told Vogue of the decision to shelve her business, “I never thought I would have the bravery to actually do that, to take the site dark and to say, ‘You know what? I haven’t created something that is as true and impactful as I know it can and will be. And I’m not going to continue to chase my tail and continue to put a product out there that we, as a team, are not proud of’.”
