Jimmy Barnes has given fans a health update after undergoing major surgery almost one week ago.
The Aussie rock legend is slowly on the mend at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst, Sydney, with the 68-year-old sharing a video of himself walking with crutches in the hospital corridor.
“Day 5 post hip op, I’m on crutches for hallway walks and exercises,” he captioned the clip posted to Instagram, in which he was wearing his patient gown.
“I have to thank everyone doing their best to get me back on my feet again. That includes all of you cheering me on.”
Days ago, Barnes also shared two photos from his hospital room in which he appeared in good spirits as he continues to be cared for by staff and his loving wife, Jane.
“I turned a corner today. Making steady progress and doing my best not to rush anything,” he wrote alongside the photos.
“Felt great to get outside for some good old Darlinghurst air. Thankful my @jane13barnes is always by my side.”
It was earlier this month that the rocker revealed to fans that he would need to undergo immediate surgery on his hip after experiencing pain during the New Zealand leg of his Hell Of A Time tour.
“I’ve got some bad news unfortunately,” he began in the post. “I had a twinge in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin on Thursday morning and by late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital.”
Barnes said the surgery meant he would need to scrap his planned shows in August and September, with his recovery expected to take six weeks.
“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue,” he continued. “These doctors don’t muck around! Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.”
“As you know, I hate to let anyone down, but I’m also never going to compromise the quality of my gigs. I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause everyone – I HATE moving shows! - but thank you for understanding.”
The health shock came just a few months after he underwent open heart surgery for a life-threatening bacterial infection.
Following the procedure in December, his wife, Jane, confirmed he was making “good progress” and was recovering well.
“Good progress today in ICU,” she updated fans on Instagram at the time. “Some massive tubes have come out and first physio visit. Clearing lungs and deep breathing, we know he’s good at that!
“Our family thanks each and everyone for your well wishes, every single one counts so please keep them coming️.”
