Chart-topping R&B singer Khalid has publicly addressed allegations made by his ex-boyfriend for the first time since he was outed.
After being outed in a series of posts over the weekend and going on to confirm his sexuality, Khalid has now shared a video responding to shocking claims made by his former partner.
In a video posted on X and his Instagram Stories on Monday, Khalid said he needed to address some things before moving on.
“I just wanted to come on and address some things so we can leave it in the past,” he said. “I know I don’t have to, but I feel like it is important for me to speak my side of the situation.”
Khalid first took on the allegations that he used “pink cocaine,” saying: “I’ve never done cocaine a day in my life. I don’t place myself in those scenarios. I’m not in those surroundings. I [do] smoke weed and I drink [alcohol] a little bit. But I’ve never done cocaine a day in my life. For real.”
He then shut down rumours that he had hired sex workers or paid people to date him.
Khalid went on to share that he and internet personality Hugo D Almonte dated four or five years ago and hadn’t talked to him since.
“This is all random. I don’t know why he did it. I don’t know what’s going on with him. … I haven’t even had a conversation or seen this dude in four years,” he explained.
The singer also then went on to discuss the allegations his ex-partner had made about being in an abusive relationship.
“Seeing the few comments of people painting me as if I’m just some manipulative abuser, it’s just crazy to me regarding the stories of the abuse,” he said in the video. “It’s triggering. It’s triggering because it’s the other way around, and that’s what hurts.”
Almonte has not yet replied to Khalid’s statement.
His flurry of bizarre posts over the weekend provoked an immediate negative reaction on social media.
“I hate when people OUT someone just because yall broke up! that’s NASTY,” one person wrote, while another replied that “exposing someone is never cute.”
“You’re actually weird for this and absolutely nobody is on your side,” said another person.
Despite the outing, Khalid told another fan that he wasn’t really in the closet, he just chose not to talk about his private life.
“I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business,” he wrote.
