Aussie star Guy Pearce’s shock split with GoT star Carice van Houten

Guy Pearce and actress Carice van Houten have split, with the news emerging just days after he made controversial comments about his ex-wife.

Aussie star Guy Pearce and Carice van Houten, the mother of his son, have split.

Dutch actress van Houten confirmed on Instagram Stories that she and the actor haven’t been together “for years”.

Speculation about the couple’s relationship began when Pearce, currently starring in The Brutalist, said in an interview last week that his ex-wife,  Australian psychologist Kate Mestitz was the “greatest love of my life”.

In an interview published in The Guardian, he said: “My ex-wife, Kate, was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child, Monte.”

The ex-Neighbours star added: “I felt like I messed up my marriage. I don’t feel that way any more, but at the time I was devastated.”

Pearce and award-winning actress van Houten, who starred in Game of Thrones,  welcomed son Monte in August 2016.

It was previously thought that Pearce and van Houten were married when he was spotted at the end of 2024 walking the red carpet at the 34th Annual Gotham Film Awards in New York with a ring on his wedding finger.

Pearce, who won the hearts of  fans as Mike on Neighbours,  recently said he doesn’t think he would be cast in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert if it were made today.

“I probably wouldn’t get cast now in the movie just because there’s a big push to only cast people with the same sexual orientation,” he told Page Six.

“I always think [it] is a little weird because one’s sexual orientation should be private,” he opined. “So I don’t know why that comes into play when it comes to casting.”

“But that said, I understand that, you know, people feel that they need their own kind represented.”
